About Us: Board of DirectorsTrisha Cipriani, Chair. Trisha Cipriani, Chair. Trisha has successfully worked in Marketing, Sales and Project Management for over 15 years in Trinidad, London and Canada. She thinks that consistently striving for improvement is necessary in business and in life. She is also a firm believer in volunteer work and giving back, she agrees with Winston Churchill's words: "We make a living by what we do, but we make a LIFE by what we give". Trisha has been a member of the Board since 2005. Barbara Farkas, Vice-Chair. Barb has been working for the Center for Addiction and Mental Health for the past ten years. She is a senior addiction therapist in the Women's Program. Barb played an active role in client care and program development working with a wide diversity of clients. Barb has extensive firsthand experience working with the women and their needs. She is looking forward to working on the board of the North York Women's Centre to continue helping and developing programming to help women in the community with the challenges they face. Nancy Bardecki, Treasurer. Nancy retired from the Ontario Public Service in 2001 after a career involving policy development, program administration and senior management positions in a number of Ministries including Finance, Community and Social Services, Municipal Affairs and Housing and Agriculture and Food. She has a BA and MA in Economics from the University of Guelph and is a Certified Management Accountant. Nancy is actively involved in the governance of several not for profit and charitable organizations such as Ontario Water Polo, the Downtown Aquatics Corporation and Vision Assist. She is a long time resident of North York. Aisha Heywood-Delpeache, Secretary. Aisha is currently employed as a Counsellor, and has been working in the non-profit sector for over 8 years. In 2001 she completed her Diploma in Arts and Science from Seneca College and in 2003, she was awarded her Degree in Psychology from York University. Aisha enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her family.
Paula Hunter, Director. Paula currently works at Pearson Canada,
an international media company, as a Human Resources Consultant with over
fifteen years experience in her field. Paula served as a Board Member
for four years with a not-for-profit literacy organization, contributing
to projects involving strategic development and personnel development
issues. Paula has a BA from the University of Guelph, a Certificate in
Adult Training & Development from OISE, and is a Certified Human Resources
Professional. Paula's passions are travel, spending time with friends
and family, and finding humour in everyday events. Rubaiyat Karim, Director. Rubaiyat received her B.S. in Marketing
and Psychology. Ms. Karim commenced her career at Legal Momentum in Washington
D.C. as a policy intern, where she tracked and lobbied Congressional staff
on related immigration legislation. In 2004, Ms. Karim conducted research
on violence directed towards the South Asian, Muslim and Arab communities
in the post 9-11 era and co-authored the book Voices of Pain, Voices of
Hope. Rubaiyat's increasing involvement with the anti-violence movement
led to her position as a Program Coordinator for South Asian Network,
where she developed skills to prevent and intervene in the areas of Domestic
Violence, Child Abuse, Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. Currently,
Ms. Karim coordinates the York Region Violence Against Women Coordinating
Committee. Karen Lourdes, Director. With a Bachelor of Human Resources Management
degree from York University, Karen is currently the Director of Operations
at Canadian Diamond Traders Inc., an international diamond wholesaling
company based in Toronto. The Ralph Waldo Emerson "Do not go where
the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail,"
truly inspires her in all aspects of management, both professionally and
personally. Courtney McLeod, Director. Courtney has worked in Research and
Marketing at CTV and Corus Entertainment. Courtney most recently worked
at Harlequin as an Assistant Product Manager. Inspired by the romance
world, she is currently on maternity leave and enjoying every minute with
her daughter. She has an honors BA in Sociology and Women's Studies from
UWO and has volunteered at non profit organizations such as the Women's
Community House. Courtney is energized with this opportunity to improve
conditions for women in the community and is inspired by the words of
Henry Ford: "To do more for the world than the world does for you
- that is success". Shannon Persaud Tolnay, Director: A happy communicator with a
yen for great food and photography, Shannon Persaud Tolnay has recently
joined the Canadian Liver Foundation as the National Director, Fundraising.
Not new to the world of fundraising, Shannon has over 11 years of experience
in the education, healthcare and social services sectors of fundraising.
From annual fund and special events, to capital campaigns and major gifts,
Shannon is looking forward to offering support to the North York Women's
Centre and sharing her extensive skills and knowledge. She has previously
worked for the University of Toronto, The Scarborough Hospital Foundation
and YWCA Toronto. Paulett Ramsey, Director. Paulett has several years of experience in senior management, administrative and fundraising positions with some major charities in Toronto, raising several million dollars for the organizations. She is currently employed at YWCA Toronto as the Manager of Philanthrophy. Paulett has been involved in volunteer work throughout her career. Harpreet Thind, Director. Harpreet has a BA in Economics from the University of Waterloo and is a Certified Management Accountant. She has over 10 years of finance experience and currently works for IBM. She has lived in North York for five years. |
